These gains instantly cause all the character's abilities that depend on level or hit dice to be recalculated-THAC0, hit points, saving throws, etc. Proficiencies gained from this can only improve existing proficiencies; no new ones can be gained.

As if all that wasn't enough, spellcasting abilities are also improved. Since four levels usually causes previously unknown levels of spells to be gained, provisions must be made for this. No new knowledge is gained-unknown spells do not appear in the target's' memory. That means the spell-caster must select from spells they know, either from their spellbooks or their available spheres. Spell levels beyond their current knowledge are replaced with lower-level spells. For example, this spell is cast on a 1st level mage. He suddenly casts spells as a fifth level mage. As opposed to one 1st level spell, he has six spell levels (3/2/1) Since he doesn't know any 2nd or 3rd level spells, he can now choose five additional 1st level spells. The spells are chosen at the time of casting.

Hit points gained through the use of this spell are phantom hit points-that is, they are the first points lost when damage is taken. Multi-class characters gain two levels to each class.

The material component of this spell is a special holy symbol of the caster's deity, made from gold, platinum, mithril, and many other valuable metals and gemstones. The entire thing must be worth at least 2000 gold pieces. Furthermore, the skills required to make such a thing should definitely not come cheaply. The holy symbol is consumed in the casting. Along with the fact that dieties will seldom grant this spell, this certainly limits the casting of this spell down to manageable levels.
